The journey your quality socks have taken

Do you ever wonder what kind of journey the quality socks you have on your feet have made? You have only witnessed the last part of that journey, but a lot came before that. You can read all about it in this blog.

High-end textile industry

It is not without reason that Carlo buys wool and cotton for his quality socks from large yarn manufacturers in the north of Italy. This is not only because of his Italian roots , but mainly because the southern European country is known for its high-quality textile industry and the production of luxury yarns. These are characterized by their:

  • fiber quality: high-quality natural fibers such as merino wool and Egyptian cotton for a softer, more luxurious feel
  • craftsmanship: traditional methods are combined with modern technology
  • innovation in new weaving techniques, dyes and finishes
  • attention to detail: careful finishing of fabrics and yarns

OEKO-Tex Standard 100 characteristic

The merino wool and Egyptian cotton are provided with the OEKO-Tex Standard 100 label. This is a health label for textiles, which guarantees that the yarn is dyed in the right colour without the addition of chemicals. In other words: it has been tested for substances that can be harmful to health, and which can be responsible for the development of allergic reactions, for example.

Hand-chained

The yarns we purchase are dyed based on our wishes and color samples and then transported to one of our workshops . Here, the quality socks are manufactured using a machine. There are two types of machines. The old machines make a sock without a foot, which still has to be knitted separately. We work with more modern - so-called 'circular' - knitting machines from the Lonati brand, on which nine colors, so nine spools of yarn, can be added. On such a circular machine, the sock is immediately closed. We call that 'hand-linked'.

No noticeable seam

Contrary to what the name suggests, our quality socks are not hand-linked, but are machine-linked. The linking of socks is a specific method for sewing seams. By attaching the fabric edges together with a loop-shaped seam, this seam is flat and not noticeable. This prevents irritation and blistering for the wearer. It therefore goes without saying that socks that are linked are more comfortable to wear than socks with a noticeable seam. In general, the linking of socks is therefore considered a quality feature.

Fantastic wearing comfort

Once the quality socks are ready, they are washed to prevent them from shrinking at your home after the first wash. They are then ironed on a hot foot stand and packed in pairs – held together by a clip, logo and label – after which they leave the factory and are transported to the Netherlands. Here in the Netherlands, they are stored at a social work facility with which we collaborate and from where the socks are packed and sent daily. For you, it is then just a matter of ordering and buying before you can enjoy the fantastic wearing comfort of our socks. To enjoy them for as long as possible, we also give you tips on how to keep them beautiful for as long as possible. Order them today!
